Project Overview

A Clear Look at the Project Direction

The ASFIT Chat Application was developed as a custom standalone web-based communication system for ASFIT Solutions, allowing website visitors to start conversations directly from an embedded chat widget while authorized staff managed and replied to enquiries through a secure administration interface. The system supported real-time messaging, persistent conversation history, visitor and conversation tracking, unread message handling, online status, and browser-based notifications for administrators. It was built as an independent communication platform using a Node.js, Express and MySQL architecture with Socket.IO for real-time message delivery. This original chat application later became the communication foundation for the broader ASFIT CRM system developed within the same platform.

Project Challenge

What the Project Needed to Address

ASFIT Solutions needed a direct website communication system that could handle visitor enquiries without relying entirely on third-party chat platforms. The application had to support real-time two-way messaging, maintain conversation history, distinguish active and unread conversations, and provide staff with a secure interface for responding to visitors.

It also needed to work reliably within the production hosting environment, manage multiple conversations efficiently, and provide a technical foundation that could later be extended into a broader CRM system without rebuilding the communication layer from scratch.

Project Solution

How the Work Responded

ASFIT Solutions developed a custom Node.js and Express chat application with MySQL for persistent data storage and Socket.IO for real-time communication between website visitors and authorized staff. A lightweight website chat widget was connected to a secure administration interface where staff could view conversations, receive new messages, monitor unread activity, and reply directly to visitors.

The application was structured to preserve conversation and message history, manage visitor sessions, track conversation activity, and support browser-based notifications for new enquiries. Security and production reliability were considered through authenticated administration access, controlled application routes, origin and rate-limit protections, and deployment within the ASFIT Solutions hosting environment.

The communication architecture was intentionally kept extensible, allowing the original standalone chat system to later become the messaging foundation of the broader ASFIT CRM platform without replacing the core real-time conversation workflow.
